The main work in the concert is Matthew Coleridge’s 2014/15 composition “Requiem”, a piece which is becoming increasingly well known with parts of the work being frequently played on Classic FM where it takes its place in the Hall of Fame. Writing about his composition, Matthew Coleridge says:

“I wanted to write an intimate and particularly human response to the text witnessed, perhaps, at the moment of a soul slipping gently away from earthly life.  There is no depiction of the day of judgement, nor choirs on angels - but rather the presence of a solo cello which can be seen as an embodiment of that soul or a comforting voice in response to our prayers”

The work is accompanied by well-known Leicestershire organist Simon Headley and other instrumentalists are Andrew Bound (cello) and Keith Crompton (percussion).  Our own Emma Trounson sings the soprano solos.

Other works in the concert include "And There Was Light" (Coleridge); "Never Was So Much" (Bednall); "Crossing The Bar" (Parry); "My Soul There Is A Country"( Parry), "Greater Love" (Ireland); "Lux Aeterna (Elgar arr. Trounson) and "Serenity (O Magnum Mysterium")(Gjeilo).

Tickets are available on www.ticketsource.co.uk/harboroughchoral; www.harboroughchoral.org; from members of the choir or on the door.  They are priced at £18 (under 12’s free)  and include a programme and interval refreshments.
