First produced in 2019 and set in the late 1980s, Hansard is a bittersweet comedy centred on the marriage of fictional Tory MP Robin Hesketh and his wife, Diana. The action takes place on a Saturday morning as Robin returns to the couple’s Cotswolds home to find Diana unprepared for the day’s impending lunch and seemingly on the warpath, for reasons unknown.

What follows is an always amusing and ultimately poignant discussion of the issues of the day, focusing particularly on the Tories’ introduction of the notorious section 28 of the Local Government Act. While firmly rooted in history, the play has much to say about issues that are still relevant today.

The play features Joy Brankin-Frisby as Diana and Joff Brown as Robin and is directed by well-known local director John Ghent. It promises to be an entertaining and through-provoking evening.
