Remembrance Day events happening in Harborough and Lutterworth this year

Towns and villages across the Harborough district will hold special events to pay their respects to armed forces members who have died in the line of duty.

Every November, people come together to honour those who fought in both world wars, and subsequent conflicts and to remember the sacrifice they made.

We have created a guide to events happening in the area.

Representatives from the Royal British Legion will join armed forces veterans and the chairman of Harborough District Council for a service at the Portico, at Rosewood Manor Care Home on Coventry Road at 3pm on Saturday, November 7.

On Sunday, November 8, the Remembrance Sunday parade will start at the Commons car park at 9.30am, and end at St Dionysius Church for a service at 10am.

A procession will then make its way to the war memorial in The Square at 11am, where wreaths will be laid.

Due to the capacity inside the church, members of the public are encouraged to attend the Act of Remembrance in The Square.

Members of the Royal British Legion, Harborough District Council, Scouting and Guiding organisations, RAF, Army, Royal Navy and Police cadets, veterans' organisations and a representative of the Lord-Lieutenant of Leicestershire will be in attendance.

On Armistice Day, Wednesday November 11, an Act of Remembrance will take place on The Square just before 11am to mark the two-minute silence.

In Lutterworth, the Remembrance Sunday parade will begin at the Wycliffe Rooms at 10.30am on Sunday, November 8.

The parade proceeds through the town centre to the War Memorial Gardens, with the Act of Remembrance starting at 10.45am.

The Deputy Lord-Lieutenant will take the salute before the parade returns to the Wycliffe Rooms.

On Armistice Day, the Lutterworth branch of the Royal British Legion will hold a short service at the Memorial Gardens. People will gather from 10.45am ahead of the two-minute silence at 11am.

In Broughton Astley, temporary road closures will be in place on Sunday, November 8, to allow the Remembrance Parade to leave Thomas Estley College at 10.40am. The procession will make its way to the War Memorial at 10.45am.

The service will start at 10:58am followed by the Last Post, a two-minute silence held at 11am.
