Slimming World members turn unwanted clothes into a £2.7 million fundraising triumph
Slimming World members across Market Harborough, Desborough and Rothwell have been celebrating after joining thousands of Slimming World members across the country for the Big Clothes Throw – helping contribute to an incredible £2,718,917 raised for Cancer Research UK.

Local members donated clothes that had become too big for them as they lost weight, turning their personal weight-loss achievements into donations that could help support life-saving cancer research.
The local groups saw a record turnout, with members coming together to celebrate their success, clear out their wardrobes and support a cause that has touched so many families.

“When a member loses 10% of their starting body weight, we celebrate with our special Club 10 award. It is a fantastic milestone and something members are incredibly proud of,” said local Slimming World consultant Katy.
“Reaching this milestone isn't just about a number on the scales. Losing excess weight can reduce the risk of a number of weight-related cancers, including breast, bowel, womb, ovarian and gallbladder cancers. That makes being part of the Big Clothes Throw particularly meaningful for our members.”
The local event also highlighted how the benefits of weight loss can extend far beyond the individual member.
“We found that it wasn't only our members who had benefited from their weight loss journey – their wider families had too. Members take home the knowledge they've gained from our famous Food Optimising plan, learning which foods can help them feel fuller for longer, as well as new cooking skills and ideas that the whole family can enjoy.”
For many members, the opportunity to support Cancer Research UK was especially important. Cancer affects so many families, and many local Slimming World members have been touched by cancer through friends, relatives or loved ones.
The Big Clothes Throw gave members the chance to celebrate how far they had come while helping to make a difference to others.
Clothes that once fitted are often a very visible reminder of a successful weight-loss journey. By donating them, members were able to turn that achievement into something positive for someone else.
The record turnout in Market Harborough, Desborough and Rothwell showed the incredible community spirit within the local Slimming World groups. Members were proud to play their part in a nationwide fundraising effort which has raised a phenomenal £2,718,917 for Cancer Research UK.
From losing weight and gaining confidence, to learning new cooking skills and inspiring their families, local members are already making a difference in their own lives. Through the Big Clothes Throw, they have now helped contribute to something much bigger.
