One in and one out at Harborough Town as one of the world’s tallest footballers puts pen to paper

Harborough Town have completed the exciting signing of an ex-Huddersfield Town forward, though the Bees have also paid farewell to a popular player in the same breath.

First announced was the departure of Danny Newton, who has joined Alvechurch permanently following the mutual termination of his contract.

The forward racked up 40 appearances and six goals for the Bees, and he was a member of the 2025/26 Southern League Premier Central title-winning team that secured promotion to the National League North.

Newton, who has also represented the likes of Stevenage, Tamworth, Brackley Town and Leamington, is entering the twilight years of his career at 35.

It’s a move that makes great sense for Newton, as he had already spent a month on loan at Alvechurch, scoring four goals in that short period.

Bees manager Mitch Austin immediately moved to replace Newton in time for this Saturday’s trip to Leyton Orient in the FA Cup First Round Proper, bringing in a former Championship player.

Signing in following his exit from Vietnamese club Nam Dinh FC, striker Kyle Hudlin has arrived and he will wear the number 25 shirt for Harborough.

Standing at 6ft 9in, Hudlin is the world’s seventh-tallest footballer according to Top End Sports, and the second-tallest outfield player behind Scottish forward Paul Miller.

The 26-year-old has previously represented Huddersfield, Solihull Moors, AFC Wimbledon, Burton Albion and Newport County, building up Football League and National League experience.

Welcoming his newest addition, Harborough boss Austin said: “I remember watching Kyle score for Solihull in the promotion final at the London Stadium and have kept an eye on his career ever since.

“We met a few months ago through a mutual friend and, when I found out he was a free agent, I was naturally interested.

“What stood out first was Kyle as a person before we even got talking about him as a player.

“At just 26, he already has some excellent experience and his attributes will give us more firepower going forward. I’m delighted to welcome him to the club.”

Hudlin will be looking to make an immediate impact against Orient, with his registration processed in time to make him eligible for the FA Cup clash in east London.
