No date for Kibworth tip closure as MP demands answers over improvement works
Neil O’Brien MP has asked Leicestershire County Council for clarification about the temporary closure of the tip in Kibworth after it was announced that it would shut for improvement works.
The MP for Harborough has written to the council’s chief executive Jane Moore demanding answers about the site closure.

In his letter to Ms Moore, he said: “Many residents have contacted me with frustrations about the constrained opening times at Kibworth, as well as concerns about the proposed closure and the lack of detail provided by the council.
“It is particularly frustrating that Kibworth is facing further disruption following previous upgrades and extensive investment in the site.
“I do not believe it is acceptable for residents to face another closure without a clear explanation of the reasons behind it, particularly when the site is a busy local facility.”
The council explained that the site would shut to “allow strengthening works to be carried out on the waste bays, making them more robust, protecting them from daily wear and tear and providing a more efficient disposal process”.
But the council could not confirm the exact dates of when the site will be shut to the public.
Minor preparatory work is being carried out, which does not affect public access to the recycling centre.
A council spokesperson said: “We don’t yet have a date for the closure or the timescale for the works, and we won’t know this until these preparatory works are complete.
“Once we have confirmed the date and length of the closure, this information will be communicated to council members and the public, so that they have a full picture of what to expect.”
Opening times at the Market Harborough recycling and household waste site will be extended while the Kibworth tip is shut.
