Great Glen councillor steps down from parish council

Cllr Peter Scott, who represents the Glen ward at Harborough District Council, said: “I have today made the difficult decision to resign as a parish councillor for Great Glen.

“I remain as your Great Glen Ward HDC District Councillor, and as such I am dedicated to making the ward a safer, happier and healthier place in which to live.

The councillor was elected for the district council in 2025.

When asked about his decision to stand down, he explained: “I found it difficult to wear two hats, that of a district councillor and a parish councillor, when conflicts arise.

“I was also not happy with what I considered a weak stance by the parish council against

major housing developments around Great Glen.”

Great Glen Parish Council was approached for comment.

Cllr Scott has been vocal in his opposition to the 4,000-home development between Great Glen and Oadby.

In October, he called on residents to make their voices heard after he warned that the plans submitted by Urban and Civic and Homes England could worsen traffic congestion and put pressure on public services.
