Community pub in Desborough reopens after £260k refurb
A popular pub in Desborough has opened its doors again after undergoing a major refurbishment.
Around £260,000 was used to breathe life into The George, on the High Street, with the pub being updated throughout.
Admiral Taverns and licensee Vanessa Amoako worked together to modernise the more than over 200-year-old pub, while still keeping its original features.
Customers can make use of the new games room – complete with a pool table, dart boards and flat screen TVs.
The inside has been transformed with new furniture, fittings, floorings and decor. And outside, there is new signage and the windows were spruced up with a lick of paint.
The beer garden has also been redesigned so people can make the most of the warmer months.
Licensee Vanessa Amoako has worked at the George for more than a decade and her daughters Jodie and Sophie help out with the running of the pub.
She said: “It’s been amazing to watch our plans for the pub come to life over the past number of weeks. We’re really proud of the new look and it’s been fantastic to welcome both new and old faces through the door since we reopened.
"This is a true family pub, not just because of the team behind it, but because of our wonderful customers who really are like a second family. I’d like to thank our team at the pub for all their hard work throughout the renovation and since we reopened.
"I’d also like to thank the team at Admiral Taverns for their support throughout the project, as well as the local community, who have always been our strongest champions.”
Patrons can expect a busy schedule of quiz nights, live music and karaoke as Vanessa plans the pub’s entertainment.
