Harborough church to host Malawi student and charity worker for climate change talk

A PhD student from Malawi will speak about the devastating effects of climate change on her country at a church in Market Harborough this week.

The Sustainable Harborough Community and the Transfiguration Eco Team will host a free event at Our Lady of Victories Catholic Church on Wednesday, September 9 at 7.30pm.

The talk will feature Jessie Akambadi, a Malawian PhD student at Loughborough University working with the charity Mbedza.

The land-locked African country faces flash flooding and unpredictable farming conditions as the battle against climate change intensifies.

Jessie will discuss how Mbedza is helping villages to build climate resilience by teaching tree-nursery skills and the "Tiyeni" farming method, which uses organic, raised-mound planting to withstand heavy rains.
