Phoenix Saxophone Orchestra aims to give adults the chance to have fun playing the sax together and share its versatility with a wider audience.

The ensemble is starting with 14 musicians playing seven different types of saxophone.

They range from the tiny sopranino through the more commonly-seen soprano, alto, tenor and baritone saxophones, to the enormous bass and contrabass sax.

The musicians have built up a wealth of experience playing with other sax groups, orchestras, jazz, swing and many other types of band in the UK and across Europe.

Jane Smith, a founder member of Phoenix Saxophone Orchestra, said: “We are really excited to be launching this new orchestra. “Playing the sax is great fun.

“It’s even better when you get to do it with a crowd of like-minded people!

“What’s particularly good about Phoenix is that we have players with different levels of musical ability.

“But we all work together to support and help each other develop our musical skills.”

She added: “We are a friendly and supportive bunch and we make a great sound too.

“So why not come along and join us?”

Led by highly-experienced musical director Tony Rifugiato, the orchestra will be playing a wide variety of music, from traditional folk songs, modern pop and rock, to film music, jazz and classical works.

The group meets every other Sunday morning at Great Bowden Village Hall.

Phoenix is keen to recruit new members.
