European masterpieces in Harborough

Some of the best composers from continental Europe will be celebrated at the weekend in the latest concert by Market Harborough Choral Society.

The concert of choral classics is being presented by the group on Saturday, March 25, at 7.30pm at Market Harborough Methodist Church in Northampton Road.Market Harborough Choral Society are performing a concert called Choral Masterworks from Europe featuring a host of well known short choral works by composers from the continent . Items to be sung include Mozart’s Ave Verum and Panis Angelicus by Cesar Franck. These will be performed alongside works by Bach, Mendelssohn and Faure .The choir will be also be joined by choristers from Leicester Cathedral in the famous Misereri by Allegri, which features a recurring high note and promises to be a spine tingling moment for the audience.The group has been in preparations for the concert for a little while and is looking forward to the concert.Neil Ryrie, the chair of the society, said: “We have really enjoyed rehearsing these exquisite pieces which are the finest examples of choral music from Europe. “If you have never been to a classical or choral concert before, this would make a great introduction as the items are short and often feature on Classic FM. “We’ve also included music by the English composer Purcell, as we are still part of Europe.”The concert will be conducted by the choral society’s musical director Anselm Kersten and accompanied by organist Ivan Linford, who will perform two organ solos including the lively and toe tapping Sortie in B flat by Lefébure-Wély.The society prides itself on being inclusive and welcoming.
