Market Harborough Swimming Club members Jay Newman (14), Charlie Poole (15), and Hattie Bates (15) say they are delighted to have been chosen to take part in the event, which is in New Tapei City in July.

Heidi Newman, from the club, said: “The children are all very dedicated to their swimming and train before and after school most days.

“They usually do 14 hours of training in the swimming pool and three hours in the gym each week.

“They then spend their weekends travelling to swimming competitions, and swim in national level events.”

The International Children’s Games aim to foster friendships and links between all the participating countries and to give young talented athletes international experience.

The trio all have to raise £1,300 each to participate in the games and are looking for donations or sponsorship.

Heidi added: “If anyone feels that they could help the children realise their dream of competing in an international competition, please contact me by email at [email protected].”
