People urged to use other facilities as Lutterworth recycling centre remains closed
People are being told to use other tips and ‘legal disposal options’ as the closure of the Lutterworth Recycling Centre goes into its third week.
The tip, in Moorbarns Lane, closed on Friday, August 7 after Leicestershire County Council said it was dealing with “exceptionally high demand”.

The initial week-long closure of the four recycling centres across Leicestershire was extended on August 12 and is now in place until further notice.
Cllr Adam Tilbury, cabinet member for environment and waste, said: “The decision to temporarily close the sites has been taken due to ongoing service pressures and to ensure that we can continue to operate the wider network safely and effectively.
"Residents can continue to use alternative sites and are encouraged to check opening times and site information before travelling.”
Concerns had been raised over the consequences of closing the sites, with some worried about increased flytipping.
Cllr Tilbury said: “We appreciate the concerns that some residents have raised. However, there are still alternative recycling and household waste sites available, and we would encourage people to make use of those facilities and other legal disposal options.
“The vast majority of residents dispose of their waste responsibly, and we would ask anyone using a private waste carrier to ensure they are properly licensed. Fly-tipping is illegal and can result in enforcement action.”
Kibworth Recycling Centre is still open and the council says it will monitor the situation closely.
The councillor added: “The temporary closures will be reviewed as service pressures ease, with the aim of reopening the sites as soon as it is practical to do so.”
