Lutterworth golfers raise thousands for bereavement charity with special fundraising day

A group of golfers helped to raise thousands of pounds for a charity after a successful fundraising day at Lutterworth Golf Club.

The event, held near the borders of Leicestershire, Warwickshire and Northamptonshire, saw 17 teams come together with around £4,000 for SLOW, a charity supporting bereaved parents and siblings.

SLOW gives families an informal, quiet and understanding space to meet others who have experienced similar losses and offer hope to those living with grief.

A keen golfer and distance runner, Andrew Morris decided to use his sporting interests to raise funds and awareness for the cause.

The golf competition was followed by food, drinks, entertainment, raffle prizes and an auction with generous donations from sponsors and supporters.

Keiron Tompkins, Ben Gascoigne, Darren Gascoigne and Jack Frake came out on top and were named as the winning team.

Just two days after the event, Andrew competed in the Leicester Run Festival half marathon as part of his preparations for next year's London Marathon.

He said: “I have run the Manchester marathon before. It has given me motivation to run with all my abilities and coming home in under three hours and 50 minutes would be great.”
