The accident happened near the Fleckney Wistow roundabout on the A6 just after 6pm last night.

One fire engine from Wigston and another from Leicester’s Central fire station raced to the scene along with police and at least one ambulance.

Firefighters used special absorbant pads and soil to soak up petrol leaking from the rider’s damaged motorbike.

They made the car and motorcycle safe as the road was closed by police as the scene was cleared up and an investigation launched.

Officers set up a diversion on the old A6 at Great Glen before the main road was re-opened to traffic later last night.
