Motorcyclist airlifted to hospital after colliding with a tractor on the northern edge of Harborough district

A motorcyclist was airlifted to hospital after he collided with a tractor on the northern edge of the Harborough district.

The trapped male rider was freed by firefighters before being flown to Nottingham’s Queen’s Medical Centre.

The two-vehicle crash happened on the busy A47 near Tugby just before 6pm on Tuesday evening.

All three 999 services raced to the scene after the motorcyclist was involved in the smash with the tractor towing a trailer.

Fire crews from Market Harborough and Oakham cut the man free as he was assessed and treated by paramedics.

Police said his injuries are not life-threatening while the tractor driver escaped unhurt.

The accident sparked serious traffic disruption as the road was shut for over three hours as it was cleared of debris and a police investigation launched.

Firefighters were at the scene for two hours as they made the carriageway safe.
