Police issue warning after Lutterworth couple scammed
Officers in Lutterworth are warning people about a scam after a couple had a ‘significant amount’ of money stolen from their bank account while in the town.
The couple had been approached by what Leicestershire Police described as a “well dressed woman” who could not speak nor hear and appeared to be speaking sign language.

She had a clipboard with the details of a charity supporting children and women and the couple were invited to make a card payment of £5.
But this supposedly did not go through and use the card again believing it was for the initial £5.
Later, when they felt as if they have been scammed. They check their account and found a significant amount had been taken.
The Lutterworth Beat team said: “So please be aware that this type of scam has happened and could be repeated. If you wish to kindly give to charity please use the official site or those that operate within a store. In this case the couple were approached in a car park.
“So beware this type of person and scam can seem completely genuine. If in doubt, a polite ‘no thank you’ should do. Then please call us as soon as possible.”
