Relieved 84-year-old Harborough man is finally set to get his second Covid vaccination - with help from the Harborough Mail

A relieved 84-year-old is to finally get his second Covid-19 vaccination at a Market Harborough surgery today (Friday) - two months after he was due to have it.

Jon Reader said he was becoming “increasingly concerned and frustrated” as he battled to set up his critical second coronavirus jab at Market Harborough Medical Centre on Coventry Road.

But he is now set to have his second shot at 4.30pm this afternoon after the Harborough Mail urgently raised his case with the surgery.

“I am just so relieved that I’ll be finally getting my second jab this afternoon. I’d like to say a big thank you to the Harborough Mail for sorting this out for me because I was getting nowhere,” said Jon today.

“I was becoming more and more worried about this because we all know that getting the second dose is just so important.

“I’m obviously not fully protected until I have received both jabs.

“I had my first Pfizer vaccination way back on January 29.

“That all went fine and I was due to have my second shot there on April 23,” said Jon, from Lubenham.

“I turned up on the day after driving in and joined the big queue outside.

“But when I got in they told me they couldn’t find me on their list.

“I’ve driven back to the medical centre a few times since on the off chance – and just been fobbed off, I’ve got nowhere.

“They told me they didn’t have enough of the Pfizer vaccine to give to me.

“I’ve been a member of the medical centre there for 17 years and they’ve always been very good,” said the retired taxi driver.

“So I cannot understand what’s gone wrong this time.

“But I can’t wait now to go along this afternoon and get my second vaccination.

“I’ve tried to stay fairly calm about this long delay.

“But now that cases are rising again locally as well as nationally with this dangerous Indian variant it’s become a lot more worrying.

“So getting my second shot today is a massive relief and I can’t wait to get it,” said Jon, a bachelor.
