Market Harborough library and museum have both been shut in the relentless ongoing battle to combat the coronavirus.

The popular library and museum, both based at The Symington Building on Harborough’s Adam and Eve Street, will stay closed “until further notice”.

They shut at 6pm on Friday March 20 as part of a county-wide crackdown to beat the highly-contagious virus.

The county council has closed all of its libraries and museums throughout Leicestershire.

Events, activities, adult learning classes and clubs due to take place in all libraries have been cancelled (until further notice).

Items currently out on loan will not be due for return until Friday May 1, 2020.

Some of Leicestershire’s recycling and household waste sites will also be sealed off from Saturday March 21 “to prioritise public safety during the coronavirus outbreak”.

Lutterworth’s waste site on Moorbarns Lane is among those being closed.

“Site users are encouraged to firstly consider if the visit is necessary and then use the available alternative locations nearby if needed,” said a county council spokesman.

County council leader Cllr Nick Rushton said: “Our focus is keeping critical services running, particularly those supporting vulnerable people.

“As well as the closures announced, some events will be cancelled.

“So keep in touch by following the national guidance, our website and social media channels.”

* Beacon Café (country parks remain open)

* Beaumanor Hall catered events

* 1485 Tithe Barn at Bosworth Battlefield Heritage Centre

* The 1620s house at Donington-le-Heath

* Record Office for Leicestershire, Leicester and Rutland.
