Harrisons Taxis has been named Taxi Business of the Year in the East Midlands, as part of a public vote for My Local Awards programme for East Midlands.

Harrisons Taxis was founded in West Northamptonshire in April 2024 with just two drivers. Now, the business has three offices - one in Market Harborough, one in Wellingborough and one in Northampton.

General manager Adam Smith said: “We were absolutely over the moon. To win Taxi Business of the Year 2026 just over two years after starting with only two drivers was a very proud and emotional moment for the whole team, particularly knowing how many challenges we had overcome along the way.

"More than anything, it felt like recognition for every member of staff, every driver and every customer who believed in Harrisons and helped us get to where we are today.”

He added: “One experience that will always stay with us involved a distressed member of the public whose partner was suffering a heart attack on a bus and had been told there could be a three hour wait for an ambulance.

"We immediately dispatched one of our drivers, Seb, who got them to Kettering General Hospital as quickly as possible, waived the fare and personally helped the passenger into the hospital. A few weeks later, their partner contacted us to say they were recovering and had been told that, had they not reached hospital when they did, they may not have survived.”

"For us, that story represents what Harrisons is about at its core, local people looking after local people and a driver recognising that sometimes the person in the back of the car matters far more than the fare.”
