A woman in her 80s drove the wrong way along the busy A14 for over two miles last night (Tuesday) – but miraculously no one was injured.

Police received a string of 999 calls at about 7.30pm from other shocked road users as the pensioner’s Fiat Panda headed westbound on the eastbound carriageway straight towards on-coming traffic.

A lorry driver was finally able to stop the woman driver near Junction 3, the turn for the A6 Rothwell/Desborough bypass, as police raced to deal with the freak incident.

A Northamptonshire Police spokeswoman said: “The driver was a woman in her 80s and it is believed she entered the wrong carriageway at Junction 7 near Kettering.

“Luckily a lorry managed to stop the car safely and there were no injuries.”
