Primary school in a Harborough district village could be expanded to take in an extra 210 pupils moving into new local housing developments

A primary school in a Harborough district village is set to be expanded to take in an extra 210 pupils in a scheme costing nearly £4 million.

Fleckney Primary School could get a new seven-classroom block and an extended school hall to accommodate scores more youngsters moving into new local housing developments.

The bold £3.9 million blueprint for the school – which now has about 390 pupils aged from 4-11 – on Batchelor Road, Fleckney, will go before Harborough District Council’s planning committee.

A Leicestershire County Council spokesperson said: “We’re proposing to extend Fleckney Primary School to provide more learning spaces and to take an extra 210 pupils.

“If approved, the scheme will involve the construction of a new seven-classroom block as well as an extension to the existing school hall.”

They added: “The proposals have been submitted due to the number of new housing developments that have been approved in the area.

“Developing more school places is a key priority of the council and these proposals would help to reduce pressure in Fleckney.”
