A dentist practice in the Harborough district has said it will be able to accommodate 2,000 new patients if its extension is permitted.

The owners of the Fleckney Dental Practice in School Road want to extend its existing site to allow it to offer treatment to more people.

Serving a patient population 6,800 people, the practice currently offers both NHS and private treatment, which includes routine examinations, fillings, implants and teeth straightening. It is was first converted into a dental surgery from a house in 2004.

The applicant Mr H Amin has applied to Harborough District Council to build a first floor extension to the surgery, allowing it to add two extra surgery rooms to the practice. This will mean it will have a total of five on site and will allow it to take on thousands of new patients.

Currently, there are two surgery rooms on the building’s ground floor, along with a reception, waiting area and a toilet. Another surgery room sits on the first floor, along with staff and storage rooms.

If approved, the extension will be added to the western side of the property and will make no change to the practices current parking arrangement. The site’s existing office will be extended as part of the plan and the on-site staff room will change location.

As part of the changes, the applicant intends to increase the number of staff working at the practice too. There are currently five full time staff on site, as well as six part time employees. But planning documents project that the number of full time staff is expected to rise to six, seeing four additional clinical staff members and two administration employees added to the practice. The surgeries opening hours are also expected to remain at 8am-6pm, Monday to Saturday.

The application was submitted to the council last week and a decision date on the proposal is expected in mid-September. Residents can submit their feedback on the development via the council’s website and have until Friday August 11 to do so.
