The Black Cats were beaten 43-15 at Occupation Road on Saturday as they dropped a place to eighth in the Midlands 1 East.

However, Mckay-Mount wasn’t concentrating on the result against the side second in the standings.

“We had several of our first choice players away, but it was an opportunity for some of our other players to step up and show what they can do in the first team,” he told The Mail.

“Largely, they did pretty well. There was a lot of dog.

“Oundle are in the top three for a reason.

“They are a decent side and proved that this week.”

Having the opportunity to test other players was a big plus for Harborough.

“The coaches are building up good strength in depth at the club,” Mckay-Mount added.

“It’s great that we have selection choices to make and it will be important going into next season.

“We’ve only got three or four games left this season but next season we’re going to have a decent squad.

“We’ll be looking to build on this next season.”

Harborough have a blak week in the fixtures but will host Peterborough on March 21.

Peterborough currently sit a place but 10 points behind the Black Cats.

While Mckay-Mount wants his side to extend their lead on their opponents, he believes his side and Lutterworth will be battling it bout for seventh spot.

He continued: “Realistically, I think where we finish in the table is between ourselves and Lutterworth.

“We’re looking at finishing seventh or eighth.”

Lutterworth regained seventh spot following a 15-10 victory at Peterborough on Saturday.

On March 21 they host 10th-place Rugby Lions.
