Nelson B defeat Cons in battle of the darts league’s top two sides

In the battle of the Market Harborough Men’s Darts League top two, Nelson B who gained the spoils with a convincing 20-7 triumph against second placed Desborough Cons.

The Nelson went 6-3 up after the pairs and won 10 of the next 12 legs to procure victory, the winners being the undefeated Andy Shillcock, Damo Brennan, Dave Claffey and Jamie Preston.

It was a night of close matches as The Old Works edged out The Royalist 14-13.

The Desborough team gained what proved to be a decisive advantage in the doubles going 6-3 up, but Mick Ward beat Steve Lawrence 2-1 as The Royalist hit back.

In the decisive sixth singles rubber Dave Hill won the opening leg but Kev Franks won the final twolegs to give victory to The Old Works.

Rothwell Cons put their recent poor run behind them with a 19-8 win against bottom side Desborough Services.

The Stag Maidwell gained their first win of the season as they moved off the bottom of the B League table on leg difference. They defeated Nelson A 14-13 in a match that went down to the wire.

In another upset The Fox from Wilbarston beat The Nags 14-13. The villagers put themselves in control winning the pairs 7-2 and wins for Richard Hollis, Shaun Godlington (180) and Brad Godlington (118 finish) saw them past the winning post.

The Bulls Head continued their improvement as they saw off the challenge of Harborough Cons winning 18-9.
