Can Harborough Town kill the Poachers' momentum?

Stuart Spencer is targeting three points at Boston Town, but admits his side will have to kill their rivals’ momentum.

After fighting off relegation last season, the Poachers are targeting a top-10 finish this year having won three of their last four matches, including a Lincs Senior Cup semi-final against UCL Premier highfliers Holbeach United.

“It will be a really hard game, they’re having a good season,” Spencer told The Mail.

“They’ve improved from 12 months ago and are in a cup final, so they’ve got plenty of momentum.”

Boston’s last league win was a 2-1 success over Desborough, the side who held the Bees to a 2-2 draw at the weekend. Levi Freeman gave Ar Tarn an early lead before Ben Williams and Joel Konteh edged the hosts in front before half time.

And just as it looked as if Harborough were set for three points a wind-assisted free kick allowed William Bell to level in the 81st minute.

“It was frustrating to be honest,” Spencer added. “We had probably 70-80 per cent of the ball but at 2-1 up we didn’t kill them off.

“We felt we deserved the three points based on our display.

“We didn’t struggle with the wind, in that regard. We kept the ball down and played well.

“We didn’t take our chances. At 3-1 we could maybe have opened the game up and gone on to win 4-1.

“A third goal would have relaxed us. At 2-1 with that one-goal lead you’re always that bit more fragile as you’re at risk.

“But I’m not going to take it out on the players.

“It was a disappointing result but a good performance and they played good football.”

Saturday’s game saw Town hand a debut to striker harry Wakefield, who has joined from Oadby.

Kick off at the DWB Stadium will be 3pm.
