Nigella Lawson is well known for her culinary skills - from classic dishes to banana skin curry.
But the celebrity chef has now stirred up a frenzy with her pronunciation of the word ‘microwave’.
Potato - Poh-tah-toe, Tomato - Tom-aye-toe, Microwave - Mee-crow-wav-ayee - here’s what happened.
Why has Nigella Lawson gone viral?
On Monday night (7 December), the latest episode of the 60-year-old chef’s Christmas series Nigella's Cook, Eat, Repeat - named after her cookbook - aired on BBC Two.
During the show she was preparing brown butter colcannon, a ‘sweet, nutty’ vegetable mash potato.
Just as she was about to heat the milk in the microwave, she could be heard by unassuming viewers pronouncing it ‘Mee-crow-wav-aye’.
Yes, we have been pronouncing it wrong all these years.
What was the viewers’ response?
Foodies who had been watching the show took to Twitter to discuss Ms Lawson’s hilarious gaff.
The original account that raised the issue with Lawson’s pronunciation wrote: “She has spoken.
"We need to know how it's spelt @Nigella_Lawson. We've been wrong all this time!"
Another added: "Eternally grateful to Nigella Lawson for letting us know we've all been mispronouncing microwave for the last 50 (or so) years."
While one joked: "Nigella referring to her microwave as a “mick-ro-warvey” is honestly in the top ten moments of the year for me."
What other recipes has Nigella made on her BBC Christmas show?
The famous chef has ranked in the top 25 British chefs of 2020 - according to sales, incomes and appearances - so you might want to serve some of her recipes alongside your turkey and trimmings on 25 December.
