Here's when Fortnite chapter two season two is set to arrive

Fans have been waiting a long time for a new season of Fortnite to begin but it appears that wait might almost be over.

The massively popular online shooter usually begins a new season every 10 weeks or so but, after launching Chapter 2 last year, Epic Games decided to extend that Chapter’s first season for an extra two months.

The release has since been hit by further delays but a firm date has now been confirmed for the launch of season 2.

While Epic Games have confirmed almost nothing about what the new season will contain, they have begun dropping some enigmatic clues.

Here’s everything we know so far.

What do we know about the new season?

Epic Games has previously dropped hints about upcoming seasons via cryptic Tweets but this time around they’re doing things in a slightly more elaborate way.

Gamers in Brazil first noticed Fortnite posters popping up in the real world, containing a mysterious golden hand symbol and a phone number. Calling the phone number reveals a hint about the new season.

The same posters have since appeared everywhere from Italy to Japan, the US and Australia, so there are plenty of clues to work with at this point.

The messages themselves refer to an organisation known only as “The Agency”.

Some have suggested that they might be related to the E.G.O Organisation, but nothing is certain. What we do know is that they are on the hunt for “acolytes” of some kind.

However, if you want to get a sense of how secretive they are, try contacting them on the official Fortnite Discord – you’ll quickly find yourself banned!

The Epic Games web page that confirmed the new season’s launch date features a redacted description of it, promising that “Season 2 will feature [redacted] with multiple [redacted]”

The message closes with the admission that “We can’t brief you on all of next season’s secrets just yet.”

What else has been suggested?

There have been some subtle clues dotted about the in-game world as well – items of furniture in Fortnite’s Eye Land have begun turning gold.

A golden skeleton skin named “Oro” was previously leaked, with some suggesting that the two could be connected – the character appears to be a spin on the King Midas myth about a man whose touch turned objects to gold. It has also been suggested that Oro will be this season's tier 100 skin.

It is thought that the gold hand symbol might refer to the fabled “Midas touch” and some have even theorised that gold will be introduced to the game not just as a cosmetic choice but as a major new gameplay component – serving as a brand new building material.

Stone, wood and metal have formed a stable foundation for Fortnite’s building system since the game launched, and introducing a new option to the mix could really shake up how the game is played.

When does season 2 start?

The official Fortnite website states that the new season is expected to begin on Thursday 20 February 2020.
