Well over 1,000 customers were blacked out today (Sunday) in Market Harborough.

The major power outage hit 1,300 homes to the west of the town at about 11am on the day the UK switched to British Summer Time.

A Western Power Distribution (WPD) spokesman said properties were affected in the Logan Street, Brookfield Road and Lubenham Hill area of Harborough.

LE16 9QX, LE16 9QT, LE16 9QU, LE16 9QP, LE16 9QY, LE16 9QS, LE16 9BH, LE16 9QL and LE16 9DY were among the postcodes which suddenly lost power.

The WPD spokesman told the Harborough Mail: “The fault was reported at 11.04am on Sunday March 29.

“About 1,300 customers lost power.

“We sent staff out there immediately to try and locate the fault.”

He said 976 householders were reconnected by 11.45am and everybody had got their power back by 12.20pm – just in time to cook Sunday dinner.
