The much-loved historic town topped the popular vote of eight towns and villages in the county in the Muddy Stilettos ‘Top 200 Best Places to Live’ guide.

The resounding thumb up for Market Harborough is being hailed by both Harborough MP Neil O’Brien and Harborough council leader Phil King.

“Market Harborough was voted as the most popular place to live. It has great shopping, good schools, beautiful buildings and a growing arts and culture scene, plus it’s an easy commute into London,” said Muddy Stilettos.

“With so much going for it, you’d be hard pushed to find a better place to live than this pretty market town in Leicestershire.”

The Top eight most popular towns and villages in Leicestershire were:

1 Market Harborough

2 Market Bosworth

3 Woodhouse Eaves

4 Melton Mowbray

5 Oadby

6 Clarendon Park

7 Burbage

8 Stoneygate.

MP Neil O’Brien said: “Market Harborough has so much going for it - and it’s great to see this being acknowledged in this vote.

“As the findings say, it’s a wonderful place to live, shop, work and visit thanks to the strong community spirit, brilliant range of shops, cafes and restaurants and is centrally located.”

Cllr Phil King, who leads Harborough District Council, said: “The council works really hard with a range of other stakeholders to ensure Market Harborough and wider district remain an attractive place to live.

“One of the things we’re proudest of in Market Harborough is the strong range of independent retailers we have.”

He stressed: “As we emerge from lockdown it’s now more important than ever that people continue to show their support for these brilliant shops.

“We all have to help safeguard and protect their futures in Harborough.”

Each of the 200 locations nationally were picked by the editorial team at Muddy Stilettos - and over 21,000 readers took part in the vote.

Hero Brown, the founder and editor-in-chief of Muddy Stilettos, said: “When people move out of London they are searching for more than just a house, they want to find a new lifestyle that works for them. “This exclusive reader vote will give them a fresh perspective to make their search easier.”
