Highways England said the busy east-west road will have to be sealed off until a massive clean-up operation is carried out.

A diversion route has been set up using the A508 via Kelmarsh to Market Harborough, the A4304 westbound and the A5199 via Welford back to the A14 at junction 1.

The chaos has been made worse by a crash on the A6 bypass near Desborough – sparking long queues from junction 3 of the A14.
