A teenager has died after a car flipped over and landed into a ditch in a Harborough village on Sunday afternoon (December 20).

The 18-year-old front seat passenger tragically passed away in hospital during the night as medics fought to save his life after he was critically injured.

Three other 18-year-old men in the silver Ford Fiesta were injured after the devastating crash in Willoughby Waterleys at 3.15pm.

Police have now launched an urgent investigation into the crash as they appeal to any eye-witnesses or anyone who has any information to contact them.

The Ford Fiesta was travelling along Willoughby Road when it suddenly left the road and came to rest overturned in a ditch, close to the junction with Broughton Lane.

Three casualties were taken to Leicester Royal Infirmary with minor injuries while the front seat passenger suffered serious injuries, Leicestershire Police said.

The teenager was rushed to University Hospitals of Coventry and Warwickshire.

But he “sadly passed away during the night”, said police.

“Officers are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision or saw the vehicle being driven beforehand.

“Also if anyone has video recording equipment installed in their vehicles and were in the area yesterday afternoon we would ask that they check the footage and contact officers if they have anything recorded which will assist with the investigation,” said police.

The air ambulance helicopter, land ambulances and firefighters all raced to the scene along with police after the alarm was raised.

Fire engines from Lutterworth and Wigston backed up by a technical rescue crew from Leicester’s Southern fire station responded to the single-vehicle accident.
