Society giving helping hand

Market Harborough Building Society says it is looking for more good causes to give a helping hand to after dishing out more than £13,000 to various community groups last year.

The building society established its own Charitable Foundation in 1999 with the aim of supporting charities and good causes in the Harborough area.

Lynn Burton, from the society, said: “The support continues and in 2015 the Foundation was delighted to award a further 22 grants totalling more than £13,000.

“The donations contributed towards an array of local worthy causes with varied projects including a new mower for Braybrooke Cricket Club, a built-in double oven for Home-Start South Leicestershire and a paediatric respiration monitor for NARA, the breathing charity.”

Other causes which benefited last year included Cransley Sailing Club, which received money for new sails for its youth section; Harborough District Children and Young Persons’ Charity, which received a grant for the Chill Out Bus; Northampton Search and Rescue, which was given money for a new stretcher and head immobiliser; Lakelands Hospice received money for a new bathroom; Vine Community Trust, which was given money for new items for its dining room and Soke Albany Village Hall, which received money for chairs and a storage trolley.

Lynn added: “The foundation is always seeking new projects to support, so if you belong to a local voluntary or charitable group who need some additional funding simply visit our website to see if you are eligible.
