Possible breakthrough in Market Harborough robbery investigation

The purse stolen from the woman robbed in broad daylight in Market Harborough has been handed in to the police.

The purse was found by a member of the public - although police are not saying where it was discovered.

The purse has now been handed on to a police forensics team to see whether it holds evidence linked to the robbery.

A woman aged 53 was assaulted and robbed on a footpath between houses in the town.

The robbery happened at 10.10am on Friday, January 15 on a path between Symington Rec and Mill Hill Road.

The woman was struck from behind by her attacker, who then grabbed her purse and ran off across the Rec, towards St Mary’s Road.

The attacker is described as male, five feet 10 inches tall and of slim build. He was wearing a dark blue hooded top and dark coloured trousers.

Pc Malc Roberts, based in Market Harborough, said: “A robbery in town is a very unusual occurrence.

“This appears to be a completely random incident in broad daylight, and we are taking it very seriously.”
