What a proposed shake-up of Parliamentary boundaries could mean for Harborough
A consultation into the new Parliamentary proposals has now been launched
One MP could serve the whole of Harborough district if a proposed radical shake-up of Parliamentary boundaries gets the green light.
At the moment the sprawling district falls into three different constituencies – Harborough, South Leicestershire and Rutland & Melton.
But the Boundary Commission wants a new Harborough constituency to take in all 71,000 people currently served by Harborough District Council.
The Lutterworth area, which now falls in MP Alberto Costa’s South Leicestershire constituency, would share an MP with Market Harborough for the first time if the blueprint is backed.
The urban areas of Harborough MP Neil O’Brien’s political patch – Oadby, Wigston and South Wigston – would help to form the new Blaby, Oadby and Wigston constituency.
A consultation into the new Parliamentary proposals has now been launched.
They will take effect in 2023 if they get the go-ahead.
