Urgent work is to be carried out to repair a pavilion in a major Market Harborough park.

Workers will move in on Monday (June 28) to patch up the roof at the building at Symington’s Recreation Ground on St Mary’s Road.

The improvement scheme will take about six weeks, said Harborough District Council.

“The pavilion will be cordoned off, but access to the park will not be affected,” said the council.

The blueprint is going ahead as Symington’s rec has been hit by a wave of anti-social behaviour – including heavy drinking, drug-taking and littering - over the last few weeks.

And security at the park is being stepped up as the pavilion’s roof is repaired.

CCTV and extra police patrols are in operation during the works,” said Harborough council.
