A huge new 600-house estate set to go ahead on the southern edge of Market Harborough has moved a step closer.

Housebuilder Davidsons has submitted a planning application to Harborough council to begin building on 88 acres of land at the top of Kettering Road at Clack Hill.

Some 164 houses – including 56 ‘affordable’ homes – would be built in the first part of the massive Overstone Park scheme if permission is granted.

The proposal, expected to bring about 1,500 more people into Market Harborough over the next decade, will stretch out towards Braybrooke.

It will feature a new primary school, medical centre and community complex.

The controversial development, which sparked fury when it emerged in 2018, is poised to be built near a notorious accident blackspot at the busy A6 junction.

As a result two new roundabouts will also be created in a bid to boost the flow of much more local traffic and make the area safer for drivers.

One roundabout will be constructed at the entrance to the Overstone Park site on Kettering Road and the other at the A6 junction.

Part of the vast site has already been fenced off as teams of workers moved in in February to start preparing the land for the enormous project.
