Cllr Amanda Nunn, the Conservative member for Bosworth, is being made the district council’s first ever equality and diversity champion.

The groundbreaking move was unveiled at a full council meeting on Monday night.

As the Black Lives Matter movement gathers momentum all over the UK, Cllr Phil King told councillors: “There is no place for hate or racism in Harborough.

“Racial bias still exists.

“We celebrate diversity at Harborough District Council.”

The council leader said he was appointing Cllr Nunn their new pioneering equality and diversity champion to tackle inequality.

Cllr Phil Knowles, who leads the council’s Liberal Democrat opposition, said: “I fully support this appointment.

“We are against all forms of hate and racism.”
