A woman was assaulted and robbed at 10.10am on Friday, January 15, on a path between Symington Rec and Mill Hill Road.

The woman, aged 53, was hit on the back of the head by her attacker, who then grabbed her purse and ran off across the Rec, towards St Mary’s Road.

The robber is described as five feet 10 inches tall, of slim build and wearing a dark blue hooded top and dark coloured bottoms.

Police officers were out in the same area last Friday (January 22) questioning local people and searching for witnesses. Police have also been patrolling the area.

Pc Roberts stressed: “A robbery in the town is a very unusual occurrence.

“This appears to be a completely random incident in broad daylight and we are taking it very seriously.”

If you have any information about the robbery, please contact PC1365 Stu Venables on 101.

Police still need more information from anyone who knows what happened or saw a man running from the scene.
