Picture gallery: Naseby Battlefield Project recreate Battle of Naseby on 370th anniversary at special weekend

Thousands of people went back in time to mark the 370th anniversary of The Battle of Naseby at the weekend.

The event, which included displays by The Sealed Knot and living history camps for visitors to enjoy, included a ‘drumhead service’ where the Civil War soldiers marched through to the church in Naseby before firing cannons and rifles.

Company secretary of the Naseby Battlefield Project, Joan Beretta, said the march was a beautiful piece of theatre.

“This year was the 370th anniversary of the Battle of Naseby and we wanted to make the event very special,” she said. “We do an event every year but never on this scale before.

“The event was very well supported and we were very pleased with how it went, shattered, but very pleased. It was so nice to see so many of the public there, it is very important that we have their support and that they enjoy what we do,” she added.

The event was raising fund for the project’s on-going campaign to raise money for a museum and visitor centre at the church. The project is currently putting together an application for funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

Displays included two pre-battle displays involving battles between the Parliementary Dragoons and the Royalist Cavalry before moving on to the recereation of the battle itself which involved more than 1,000 artillery, cavalry and infantry troops.
