Unemployment in Harborough falls for the first time in eight months

Unemployment is still far higher than it was before the pandemic

The number of people out of work across Harborough has dropped for the first time in eight months.

The latest statistics show that 1,930 people were unemployed and claiming benefits in December.

That’s a fall of 70 on November’s figure.

But the Covid-19 pandemic has still taken a savage toll on jobs, locally as well as nationally.

There are now three times more jobless people in Harborough than there were before the first coronavirus national lockdown last March.

Some 3.4 per cent of the district’s working age population are currently unemployed.
