They hadn't done any running before they set themselves the challenge during lockdown

Teenage twin runners Ellis and Toby Davidson have put their best foot forward and boosted a vital charity very close to their proud mum’s heart.

The gutsy Lutterworth youngsters, who turned 17 on Saturday September 5, clocked up a brilliant 500k (311mls) to raise £1,250 for Versus Arthritis.

And their fantastic three-month endurance venture as they ran almost every day has put a beaming smile on the face of their thrilled mum Cara, 44.

“I have got arthritis in every joint.

“So it is especially poignant and powerful for me that Ellis and Toby have gone out and done so brilliantly,” she said.

“I do a lot of volunteer work for Versus Arthritis.

“It’s a great, worthwhile cause and my sons have made me and my husband Iain very proud to have got behind it.”

She said Ellis and Toby kickstarted their tough challenge on April 16, her birthday, and finished on July 8, a cousin’s birthday.

“The boys started out by running 5k (3.1mls) every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

“They ran around the streets in Lutterworth – and they hadn’t done any running before,” said Cara.

“Ellis and Toby went out separately because they didn’t want to run together, they appreciated having their own space during the long lockdown!

“They gradually stepped it up until they were doing 10k a day for three days, having a rest day, and then cracking out 10k for three more days.

“They didn’t suffer any injuries despite all the running and have absolutely loved it.

“The two lads cycled 500 miles for Versus Arthritis last year and raised £600.

“They have already more than doubled that amount this time round.

“They handed over a cheque for £1,250 to our Lutterworth mayor, Rob Coleman, but the total has now actually topped £1,300.

“So both Ellis and Toby have been so committed and so determined and we can’t speak highly enough of their huge efforts and achievements.

“Now they are hoping to step up and run a tough half-marathon next year.

“So watch this space!”
