The gruesome find included a skinned muntjac deer, a stoat, a woodpecker, a weasel and other furs and skins of animals and birds.

RSPCA officers are now urgently investigating the macabre incident in Claybrooke Parva, near Lutterworth.

They said there were other animals which could not be identified as they had been scattered across the remote country road.

And a bag found dumped nearby was stuffed with bird feathers as well as a golden pheasant wing.

The horrifying discovery was made by a shocked passer-by on Woodway Lane near to the junction with Main Road, Claybrooke Parva.

Insp Ann Bennett is now spearheading an RSPCA investigation into the bizarre discovery.

She said: “It is a very strange find.

“Some of the dead animals appeared to have been partially skinned for fur like the Muntjac deer.

“But there were also dead birds like a woodpecker and other animals like the stoat and the weasel,” said Insp Bennett.

“So it’s very mysterious and I am keen to find out what has happened.

“There were suggestions some of the feathers and animal skins could have been used for fly fishing but it seems odd to scatter them across a road.

“I really don’t know what has happened but I am treating it as a suspicious incident.

“I am appealing for anyone with information to get in touch with us straight away.”

She said the grim find was made at about 11am on Wednesday March 18.
