Plans have been submitted to turn Harborough’s former Carpetright store into a 24-hour gym.

Applicant PureGym put forward plans to Harborough District Council for a gym at the Rockingham Road site which also includes the Halfords store.

The plans include an additional floor in the Carpet Right unit, and 44 parking spaces.

The planning statement says: “24-hour opening is one of the key characteristics of the applicant’s flexible offer and that of other affordable health and fitness providers. It enables members to fit gym visits around their working patterns and lifestyles.

“Such gyms are significantly less busy during the night-time period but their opening provides access to those who wish to use the gym during these quieter times, including shift and key workers.

“The nearest existing, 24-hour PureGym facilities are in Corby and Kettering, and the applicant wishes to extend similar benefits to members of its new gym in Market Harborough.”

A decision is expected in early December.
