Radio stalwart Jonno had been a volunteer with the Market Harborough station for over 10 years and he was a natural engaging with his listeners.

The music-mad married dad, who lived in the Anstey Lane area of Leicester, fronted his popular Hfm Monday night evening show until recently.

Paying an emotional tribute to Jonno, the station’s programme controller Chris Jones said: “I am so saddened by this news.

“Jonno battled so hard for many months after undergoing surgery and we all hoped he would come through this.”

He said courageous Jonno did recover enough to return “briefly to the airwaves in January” showing incredible spirit.

“Jonno was an excellent broadcaster.

“His humour was loved by so many loyal listeners who tuned in each week to be entertained by his cheery manner and trademark corny jokes,” added Chris.

“Away from the station he was always a great friend to me and I am going to miss him so much.

“Hfm has lost another wonderful person and we are all going to miss him enormously.”

He said all their thoughts are with Jonno’s devastated wife Sharon, their children and his family.
