The cash will fund one of the vital force’s lifesaving operations, which cost £1,700 each.

Sally Lax said she decided to support the air ambulance in her year as lady captain of the town’s golf club.

She presented the cheque to Vicky Evans, a fundraising executive for the service.

Sally, of Little Bowden, said: “I’m thrilled that we’ve managed to raise so much money for such a fantastic cause.

“The Air Ambulance is one of those charities you hope you’ll never have to call on.

“But it’s great to know that they are there round the clock if you do need them.”

The stalwart golfer said the club’s 60 lady members and four girl players had backed her to the hilt.

“They’ve got behind me from the start.

“We had a bridge drive, raffles and staged so many events to raise the money,” said Sally.

“We’re proud to belong to such a friendly, happy club and we are looking to recruit new ladies all the time.”

She also thanked local businesses Steffans, Ada, Space NK, The Swan pub at Lamport and Majestic Wine for their unstinting support.
