Market Harborough anti-bullying charity awarded National Lottery funding

A Market Harborough charity that helps people struggling with their mental health has been awarded £10,000 by the National Lottery Community Fund.

HAB Antibullying and Mental Health, based on Naseby Close in the town, is a charity that aims to support individuals affected by issues including bullying, mental health, domestic abuse, suicidal thoughts, disabilities and bereavement.

The funding will be used for training courses for volunteers, and will also go towards the charity’s counselling grants.

HAB Antibullying and Mental Health was founded in 2011 by Marie Connor, after her disabled son was physically attacked by bullies.

"Some of our volunteers will now be receiving a training course for suicide awareness and how to support vulnerable people, as well as hopefully a domestic abuse course later on in the year," Marie said.

"HAB pride ourselves in being able to offer support, advice and help to anyone with mental health, domestic abuse, bullying, disabilities and bereavement.

"These courses will enable the charity to offer more support alongside what I already do."

Last year HAB Antibullying and Mental Health received a £20,000 funding boost, thanks to money from the Howard Watson Symington Memorial charity.
