An inspiring Lutterworth youngster has got on his bike to ride 100 miles – and raise cash for the NHS.

Nine-year-old Alfie Appleton is clocking up 10 miles a day for 10 straight days to rake in vital money for the NHS Charities Together.

And the remarkable schoolboy has already made an extraordinary £1,365 – smashing his £1,000 target.

Alfie’s dad, Alfie senior, 40, who runs Appleton’s Fun Fairs, said: “We are very proud of young Alfie.

“He watches the news on TV as we all do and he decided he wanted to do something special to support the NHS.”

The dad-of-two added: “Young Alfie’s not especially into his sport but he loves his bike.

“So he’s totting up the miles in and around Lutterworth every day while his mum Sarra pedals alongside him.

“The money is pouring in and Alfie’s doing an amazing job for the magnificent people in the health service saving our lives day in day out.”

Alfie, who also has a younger son Ashton, six, said his well-established fun fair has been forced off the road by the Covid-19 crisis.

“Normally we’d be heading into our prime time now.

“We tour with about 18-20 children’s rides and amazing lifelike dinosaurs within a 70-mile radius of Lutterworth,” he said.

“We are just looking forward to getting back out and about as soon as we get out of this lockdown.

“And we’ll be coming to put on a fantastic show in Market Harborough to help celebrate getting back into action.”
