A Harborough woman is on top of the world today after winning a stunning £32,000 on ‘Who Wants to be a Millionaire’.

Now Alyx and her amazed partner Jonathan Grudgings, 41, are hoping to start a family as soon as possible after she’s landed the fantastic win.

Thrilled Alyx told the Harborough Mail: “I just can’t believe I’ve won all this money!

“It’s the best feeling in the world - and the weirdest feeling in the world at the same time.

“It’s just totally incredible.”

She said she lives with Jonathan, who works for motor dealer Bob Gerard in Great Glen, in a small bungalow.

“It’s technically just one bedroom.

“So we want to extend it at the front by building another bedroom so that we can start a family,” said Alyx, who works as a book-keeper and social media consultant.

“We would love to have a baby and want to start trying this summer.

“Winning all this money is brilliant because all being well it’s going to help make all our dreams come true.

“We wanted to be responsible and didn’t want to have children until we had enough money behind us.

“But now instead of having to scrimp and save for years we can look forward to starting our plan early.”

She applied to go on ‘Who Wants to be a Millionaire’ after doing well on the BBC’s cult Mastermind show in 2018.

“I enjoyed Mastermind but it was so nerve-wracking that I swore never to do a TV quiz show again.

“But I caught the end of Millionaire one night and just had a go at going on on the spur of the moment,” said Alyx.

“I was stunned when they got in touch and the next thing I was set to appear on television again!

“I was very nervous.

“It’s a real pressure cooker sitting there in the hot chair opposite Jeremy Clarkson with millions of viewers watching.

“It’s a million times harder than sitting on the sofa with your feet up in your front room answering all the questions.

“It all flashed by so quickly.

“I fell on a tough question asking what the centre of a black hole is called.

“I could have been more cool, calm and collected – and I could have used more lifelines.

“But I did ever so well on the night and I’m just so lucky and so excited to have won £32,000.

“And we’ve now got so much to look forward to, it’s just absolutely incredible.”

She said formidable quizmaster Clarkson talked to her and her fellow contestants for about 30 minutes before hand.

“Jeremy was great.

“He chatted to us all, asking questions, and was genuinely interested in who we were, what we do and where we come from,” smiled Alyx.

“I know he’s got this certain TV persona but he was fine with us, he couldn’t have been nicer.”

She recorded the episode of ‘Who Wants to be a Millionaire’ she will never forget way back at the start of December.

“I’ve had to be very quiet about it for a long time!

“I told my parents and one or two friends but that was it,” said Alyx.

“But I don’t think I’ll ever go back and take part in another television quiz show.

“That’s enough glory for me for now – I’m done!”
