A Leicestershire hospice for youngsters is calling on people to stock its Virtual Easter Egg Basket this year rather than donating chocolate.

The special remote request is being made by Rainbows Hospice for Children and Young People.

Just one in 10 of the children the charity cares for can actually enjoy eating chocolate for dietary and medical reasons.

So Rainbows, which cares for over 450 children and young people with life-limiting conditions, is encouraging supporters to buy a virtual Easter egg instead.

By donating a virtual Easter egg, you can leave a heartfelt message of support for Rainbows’ children, young people, their families and staff. E-cards can also be sent to friends and family.

Alison Furlong, Head of Community and Events at Rainbows, said: “Chocolate lasts a moment but we need you to help make memories that last a lifetime.

“Often at Easter we get lots of chocolate eggs from our very generous supporters.

“But as so many of our children and young people can’t eat them, we would be so grateful for an egg for our Virtual Easter Egg Basket instead.”

She added: “The donation will mean so much to us and enable us to continue providing our vital service to so many families who really need us.

“And it means that you can support us in a Covid-safe way from the comfort of your own home, rather than visiting the hospice.”
